Negative Effects of Cell Phones on Society

Negative Effects of Cell Phones on Society Abstract Cell phones have become an extremely common electronic gadget for many people who may prefer their use as opposed to the house phones which has since been overtaken in the industry. The growth in the utilization of the cell phones is based on their ability to become technologically advanced since most of them can take a send photos and videos and connect to the internet of web surfing. Undoubtedly, this is the main reason why so many students in the school will always have their heads down, their headphones on and their phones to their ears. Surprisingly, most children including the kindergarten kids have always since been cell phone owners if they can respond to the calls. There are endless showing things which can be done by these implements. Typically, the use of cell phones has helped many users to communicate over long distance through the communication network. Therefore, there are multiple benefits of the use of mobile phones both for school going children and in promoting eff icient business operations that will ensure the productivity and sustainability of many businesses. There is need to determine the unfavorable the effects of the use of cell phones in our society. Introduction The usage of mobile phones can result in a significant threat to the health of the users. Many concerns have been raised on the cell phone radiation that causes other severe health hazards in the human beings. Categorically, the use of mobile phones facilitates the emission of low levels of radiofrequency energy (RF) that has an adverse biological impact to the health of human beings. Besides, the low levels of the radiofrequency energy the mobile phones emit while in use are in the microwave frequency variety. Moreover, they also emit the radio frequency energy at a substantially minimized time intervals when in the mode of standby. Similarly, the high degree of RF can produce significant health problems or effects through heating of tissues, exposure to low level of radiofrequency energy that ca not produce the heat impacts which can cause the unknown adverse health effects. Moreover, a significant level of electromagnetic energy, for instance, those found in the X-rays and the gam ma rays can ionize the biological tissues. Also, a substantial amount of the radio-frequency energy can increase the body temperature and influence the damage of the tissues (Cell Phones Health Issues). Other notable short term and long term effects of cell phones on health include the impacts on emotions as the presence of mobile phones can influence the relationship of the human being as they may develop negative feelings towards people having their devices visible. The levels of stress can also be increased with the greater use of the cell phones. For instance, the frequenting ringing, vibrating alerts and the constant reminders can put the user on a frustrating edge. Besides, the use of mobile phones can cause depression, stress and sleep disturbances on the adults. Similarly, there is increased risk of illness in the immune system with the constant use of the cell phones. The risks of chronic pain can also be influenced using cell phones. Therefore, there is no doubt that the use of mobile phones can significantly contribute to the adverse health of the users. The use of cell phones can also have great disadvantages to the school going students in their academic journey. Specifically, cheating using mobile phones has become a tremendous challenge in various educational institutions. For instance, using internet search engines, students can use the cell phones to get answers to the provided test questions. The students are reportedly distracted from their studies and other important events by the utilization of the mobile phones. Evidently, the students put much focus on attention in texting or talking with their peers or friends (Solway, 2010). Nonetheless, the use of cell phones can also hamper the real human interaction as people are usually glued to their phones while ignoring the regular interactions with the people around them. There is a possibility of a big problem in the future considering the much concentration placed on the phones as opposed to the usual socializing which is integral in the human social developments. Moreover, the use of cell phones has become instruments for constant interruptions in the business and social environment. For instance, the ringing of a phone during strategic meeting sessions may interrupt the smooth and regular business of the meeting (Solway, 2010). It is a naked fact that the use of mobile phones carries the privacy risks and the security breaches to the users. For instance, there are high chances of the private messages, financial information, photographs, the online networking accounts and other applications being leaked to a third party when ones phone is stolen, or one has mistakenly left it on office desks or the public sofa. One of the most pressing disadvantages of the frequent use of the mobile phones is the increased chances of getting into traffic accidents. Typically, the distractions from using the cell phones not only prevent people from productive interaction with others but also cost lives of both the user and nonuser in case the accident has occurred. For instance, the drivers have always been notorious for ignoring the traffic rules through engaging in texting, and checking the social media platforms hence cause loss of control of their which leads to accidents. Besides, texting or using the mobile phones by pedestrians have also proved to be the leading cause of many accidents which have resulted in losing of lives (Want, 2006). Sexting, sending the sexual messages or photos to another person is an issue all parents should consider before buying a cell phone for their kids. Particularly, the kids are prone to receive sexually explicit messages or information through the use of mobile phones. Besides, through the internet, children are likely to check the sites which are banned for the childrens view. Therefore, cell phones can significantly influence the childs social and psychological developments (Want, 2006). Evidently, cell phones are always expensive considering the regular upgrades of various gadgets and devices from the specific companies. Many mobile users will always want to upgrade to new devices as long as new updates are available in the market. This is because people are usually fascinated with the various types of cell phones such as the BlackBerry Bold and the Second-Generation iPhone. Conclusion Although there are multiple benefits of using cell phones in the various social environments, there is also the greater disadvantage of the utilization of the devices. The adverse effects of the use of mobile phones effects may be felt on the peoples health, the childrens development and education, socialization and interactions of individuals in the society among other significant influence on the business and social environment. Symbolism in A Doll’s House Essay examples -- Literary Elements

Henrik Ibsen’s â€Å"A Doll’s House† is a controversial play focusing on the marriage of Nora and Torvald Helmer. The play is filled with symbols that represent abstract ideas and concepts. These symbols effectively illustrate the inner conflicts that are going on between the characters. Henrik Ibsen’s use of symbolism such as the Christmas tree, the locked mailbox, the Tarantella, Dr. Rank’s calling cards, and the letters allows him to give a powerful portrayal to symbolize aspects of characters and their relationship to each other. The Christmas tree in itself is symbolic and it means the play takes place during Christmastime. Ibsen uses Christmas tree to mainly construct the character of Nora. The Christmas tree symbolizes the feelings of Nora. At the start of the play, Nora enters the room carelessly and her mood is festive. The Christmas tree, a festive object used for decorative purposes, represents the function of Nora in her household who is pleasing to look and who adds the charm to their home. Nora dresses the tree just as Torvald dresses her up for the Stenborgs’ party. Like other married women during the period, Nora is simply decorative and is not allowed to make familial decisions. Nora instructs the housemaid, â€Å"Hide the Christmas tree carefully, Helen. Be sure the children do not see it till this evening, when it is dressed† (Ibsen 793), the same as when she tells Torvald that no one can see her in her dress until the evening of the dance. The Christmas tree also imitates th e psychological state of Nora when it is described to be â€Å"†¦stripped of its ornaments and with burnt-down candle-ends on its disheveled branches† (Ibsen 812). This describes Nora when she receives the bad news from Krogstad; as a result her min... ...her family. The analysis argues the use of symbolism as it applies to the aspects of the characters and their relationships. Henrik Ibsen’s extensive use of symbols is applied to capture the reader’s attention. Symbols like the Christmas tree, the locked mailbox, the Tarantella, Dr. Rank’s calling cards, and the letters add a delicate meaning to the characters and help convey ideas and themes throughout the play. Cyber Games Essay

What is a Cyber Game or Video Games? This is a game in the form of computer software, run on a personal computer or games machine and played by one or more people using a keyboard, mouse, control pad, or joystick. Computer games usually combine sound and graphics and range from traditional games such as chess to fast-moving action games or complex puzzles. Video and computer games, like many popular, entertaining and addicting kid activities, are looked down upon by many parents as time-wasters, and worse, parents think that these games rot the brain. Also, violent video games are readily blamed by the media and some experts as the reason why some youth become violent or commit extreme anti-social behavior. But many scientists and psychologists find that video games actually have many benefits – the main one being making kids smart. Video games may actually teach kids high-level thinking skills that they will need in the future. Here are some of the good effects of the Cyber Games. Cyber Games give your child’s brain a real workout. In many video games, the skills required to win involve abstract and high level thinking. These skills are not even taught at school. Some of the mental skills trained by video games include: †¢Following instruction †¢Problem solving and logic †¢Hand-eye coordination, fine motor and spatial skills †¢Resource management and logistics †¢Multitasking, simultaneous tracking of many shifting variables and managing multiple objectives †¢Quick thinking, making fast analysis and decisions †¢Strategy and anticipation †¢Developing reading and math skills †¢Perseverance †¢Pattern recognition †¢Estimating skills Inductive reasoning and hypothesis testing †¢Memory †¢Reasoned judgments †¢Teamwork and cooperation when played with others. †¢Simulation, real world skill Video games introduce people to computer technology and the online world. You should recognize that we are now living in a high-tech, sophisticated world. Video games make people adapt and be comfortable with the concepts of computing. This is particularly important for girls who typically are not as interested in high technology as much as boys. Video games allow each and everyone to play together and can be a good bonding activity. Some games are attractive to kids as well as adults, and they could be something that they share in common. When a child knows more than you, he can teach you how to play and this allows you to understand a child’s skills and talents. In the contrast of the good effects, here are the bad effects saying that too much video game playing makes a person socially isolated. Also, he may spend less time in other activities such as doing homework, reading, sports, and interacting with the family and friends. Video games do not exercise a person’s imaginative thinking. Using imagination may be important in developing creativity. Some video games teach kids the wrong values. Violent behavior, vengeance and aggression are rewarded. Negotiating and other nonviolent solutions are often not options. Women are often portrayed as weaker characters that are helpless or sexually provocative. Games can confuse reality and fantasy. Academic achievement may be negatively related to over-all time spent playing video games. Video games may also have bad effects on some children’s health, including obesity, video-induced seizures and postural, muscular and skeletal disorders, such as tendonitis, nerve compression, carpal tunnel syndrome. When playing online, a child can pick up bad language and behavior from other people, and may make the child vulnerable to online dangers. A study by the Minneapolis-based National Institute for Media and the Family suggests that video games can be addictive for kids, and that the kids’ addiction to video games increases their depression and anxiety levels. Addicted kids also exhibit social phobias. Not surprisingly, kids addicted to video games see their school performance suffer. I am not saying; stop playing Cyber or Video games because it can harm you and your health rather to limit the amount of time in playing although playing video games can be a learning experience, a variety of entertaining things to learn from, so people will not be addicted to just one thing. Be sure to some read books, play sports, interact with other people, and watch good TV. Everything should be taken in moderation. The Pediatrics recommends that a person should not spend more than one to two hours per day in front of all electronic screens, including TV, DVDs, videos, video games (handheld, console, or computer), and computers (for non-academic use). This means seven to fourteen hours per week total.

Gel Hydrogels Used as Scaffolding in Construction - 986 Words

Gel hydrogels can be considered as promising materials to be used as scaffold in tissue engineering since they present a load-bearing capacity and suitable mechanical properties.6 Almost all the measurements on the mechanical properties of hydrogel materials have used true stress-true strain or engineering stress-engineering strain definitions on the grounds of hydrogel incompressibility.26 However, there is no agreement as to which stress-strain definition should be adopted to determine the mechanical behavior of hydrogel materials in a compressive testing machine. Hydrogels are known to exhibit elastic behavior,27 hence, the elastic modulus, maximum stress and strain of Gel hydrogels are investigated. The stress-strain definition may substantially affect the measured mechanical properties, including elastic modulus, maximum stress and strain. A Gel hydrogel is illustrated in Figure 1. A cylindrical chamber was used to form a suitable shape for the samples. Samples were set on the l ower plate of the testing machine and compressed by the upper plate which was connected to a load cell until failure. Figure 2 shows various stress-strain curves using four definitions for strain (engineering strain, Green-St. Venant strain, Almansi-Hamel strain, and true strain) and three definitions for stress (second Piola-Kirchhoff stress, engineering stress, and true stress). This figure shows that the way in which stress-strain is defined has a profound effect on the stress-strainShow MoreRelatedA Simplistic, Cost Efficient Method Of Creating Artificial Vascular Structures Essay2063 Words   |  9 Pagesresearch and its use. Currently, a major issue facing the transplanting of vascular systems is the incapability of the recipient’s cells to accept the foreign systems into use. However, this issue is not of concern when Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) is used as this polymer has the ability to order itself in order to make hydrogen bonds with the water molecules in which it is submerged, once inside the cell. By heating up the polymer it can be determined that the negative entropy dominates due to the temperature
